Numerous Wrecks In The County In Less Than 24 Hours

It's been a very busy time for local police and EMS units in not evenĀ a 24 hour time span.

On Sunday (June 7) just after 4pm, a two vehicle wreck occurred on 421 near High Country Condos, which resulted in that section of road being closed for a time. One of the vehicles ended up on its top, according to police scanner dispatches, resulting in the road being closed for roughly 40-45mins. Boone Fire, Boone Police and EMS units responded to that scene.

Just shortly after the wreck on 421 occurred, another accident involving a Watauga County Sheriff's Deputy happen at “the big light” in Boone. That accident involved 4 people, but all were ok, Sheriff Len Hagaman told WataugaRoads.com on Sunday night.

On Monday morning just before 9:30am a wreck involving a dump truck and a vehicle caused some delays on East King Street/421 at Forest Hills Drive. That intersection, which has seen a high volume of crashes of late, recently had new signs and traffic light work done by NCDOT to help alleviate any confusion.

Also on Monday just before noon an over turn tractor and trailer caused delays on 421 near Stoney Fork Road, just before the Watauga/Wilkes line. The truck, carrying metal shavings according to scanner dispatches, is expected to take some time to be removed. As of 1:20pm NCDOT was planning on narrowing that section of road from 4 lanes down to 2 to help with that process. The driver of the truck was not injured according to scanner dispatches.Ā 3:16pm – portions of 421 near Stoney Fork may be totally shut down at time to allow the removal of over turn tractor trailer, according to scanner dispatches.

Also on Monday afternoon a singe vehicle wreck occurred on 421 at Vanderpoool RoadĀ just before 3:30pm, and another accident on 421 near Bamboo just after 3:30pm.
