Tractor Trailer Catches Fire Near Parkway Bridge On 421

There were no injuries on Tuesday afternoon (Oct 27, 2015) as a tractor and trailer caught fire near the Parkway bridge on highway 421. Darin Church, Chief of Deep Gap Fire Department, tells WataugaRoads.com that an engine malfunction started the blaze. The fire was contained to the truck cab, and it was a total loss. The truck was hauling liquid sugar to Hospitality Mints located in Boone.


3:34pm – Expect delays on 421 near the Parkway bridge due to tractor trailer on fire. Fire department units are on the scene.

3:34pm – According to scanner dispatches it is fully involved, and is carrying sugar.

3:42pm – The fire is under control per scanner dispatch.

3:47pm – scanner dispatch indicates that it was only the cab involved, and there are no fuels involved, and no injuries.
