Many residents and tourist felt the big cool down in Watauga County last week. An official low of 43 was recorded at the Boone 1 Se weather station on Saturday July 5 and Sunday July 6.
The July 5th reading missed becoming the coldest temperature for that date by three degrees, and the July 6th reading missed becoming the coldest temperature for that date by four degrees.
To illustrate and compare for the first week of July weather history: 43 tied the record for July 1 (1940), tied the third coldest mark for July 2 (1988), tied the second coldest July 3 (2008) and tied the record for July 4 (1944).
