    Monday January 28 Conditions

    5am – the freezing rain has left many surfaces slick. Caution traveling and walking this morning

    5:18am – Freezing Rain Advisory in effect until 7am for Watauga & Ashe. It is canceled for Avery, Wilkes, Caldwell

    5:30am – Brown’s Chapel and Meat Camp Roads reported slick

    5:43am – via Facebook “Friendship Church and Sorrento Skies area is a skating rink”

    5:45am – 421 from Wilkes to Boone reportedly just wet

    6am – 321 Boone to Hickory reportedly in good shape, patchy fog. Blowing Rock to Banner Elk reportedly slick

    6:15am – our sponsor from SAKS Grill reports icy conditions around Boone. They’ll be opening little later this morning

    ASU classes will meet as scheduled today, Jan. 28.

    Slick spots in Boone and Blowing Rock, along with out in the county

    6:30am- main roads have some slick spots but driveable per incoming reports. Side roads are more problematic. Lots of ice covered driveways.

    7am – main roads have some slick spots but driveable per incoming reports. Many side roads are an icy mess, along with driveways. Careful on sidewalks, porches etc.

    7:30am – power outages – Wilkes 460, Ashe 1 in Blue Ridge Electric member area

    8am – still getting a lot of reports of slick side roads and driveways. Continued caution advised

    8:50am UPDATE – Watauga County Schools are now closed.

     

    9am – still getting a lot of reports of slick roads in the county. Continue to use caution and avoid travel until temps warm up if possible.

    9:35am – still only 32 degrees in Boone. Temps are forecast to get into the mid 40s. Continue to use caution, plenty of very slick roads/surfaces.

    11:40am – it’s 55 degrees in Boone. At 10:15am it was 38
