Memorial Weekend Power Outage Impacts Part Of Watauga

Some area residents, and visitors to Tweetsie Railroad, may have been caught by surprise by a sudden power outage on Saturday.

According to Blue Ridge Electric, the outage affected 1,237 members in the Tweetsie area, down highway 321 and Niley Cook Road toward Boone. An equipment failure was the cause of the outage, and linemen had repairs made and power restored in about an hour.

Blowing Rock Rescue units were dispatched to Tweetsie help people stuck on the chair lifts due to the outage. The outages began at 3:05pm and was fully restored by 4:11pm Saturday.
