As the year to date approaches that Watauga County Deputy William Mast Jr. was killed in the line of duty, Watauga County Commissioners are working on two ways to honor his service and memory.

On Tuesday of this week (July 16) commissioners approved a resolution asking that all flags in Watauga County fly at half-staff on July 26. All business and residents are ask at 10am on July 26 to observe a moment of silence. That date marks the year to the day that Deputy Mast was killed.

The board also passed unanimously to hold a public hearing, on August 20, to name the South Fork bridge on highway 421 in his memory.
